Ahmet Savaşan, wrote the following in the condolence book:
“I wish God's mercy to those who lost their lives in the great earthquake that shook Turkey. My condolences to all of us. This earthquake disaster has once again shown that the Turkish Cypriot people and the Turkish people are intertwined, that they are united in sorrow as well as in joy; that they live together not only emotionally but also economically and socially. We are one; we are inseparable parts of a whole.
While the great earthquake in Turkey deeply wounded the Turkish Cypriot people, it also took our beloved children and some of our citizens away from us. We all owe it to keep their memories alive. Our champion athletes will continue to live as long as this nation stands.
While we continue to experience our pain, we owe it to the earthquake victims to bring them back to life under the best conditions and to work to minimize the destructiveness of future disasters. The Turkish Cypriot people will continue to stand by the earthquake victims and the Turkish people in their struggle for life in the future.
Our grief is common; our successes will also be common. We will be more resilient against earthquakes; we will overcome the difficulties of life together. We will protect our unity; we will work hard and succeed.”
